Today's Devotional Scripture

Today's Verse
Don't burn out; keep yourselves fueled and aflame. Be alert servants of the Master, cheerfully expectant. Don't quit in hard times; pray all the harder.
~Romans 12:11-12 MSG

Thoughts on today's verse...
Have you ever experienced burn out? I have and it isn't pretty. It's like a wonderfully, designed, expensive, fancy sports car that suddenly doesn't work any more. It's run out of gas. So it just sits there in the garage, gathering dust and your admiring thoughts about "what could have been." It isn't doing what it was designed for - cruising along with the top down, the wind in your hair, the stereo blasting your favorite tunes. Oh, it's still a sports car, it just isn't currently living up to its full potential. It's running on empty.

I've experienced times like that in my own life. Whether it's burn out from work, or pressing family situations I've experienced times when I just felt like I had nothing left to give, so I withdrew. I've had times when I couldn't pick up the Bible to read, I couldn't pray, I couldn't fellowship at church... I remember one such time and all I could do was to surround myself with spiritually uplifting music. That is how the Lord finally reached me and pulled me out of the depression I was in.

It was through a Don Moen song entitled, "I Will Sing". It was as if the lyrics were describing my very life and that was when I realized that God had orchestrated that very song to reach me in my depression and to lift me from it.

My prayer...
Lord, what ever it takes, reach out to us when we withdraw from You and your family. Provide us with a small, simple sign that only we will recognize as having come from Your hand that will prove to us that we are Yours. ~Amen

...because we're His,
~Tamara

  1. Had to take time to listen to your song by Don Moen and I loved it...so fitting for all of us.
I feel we are given these times of depression or spiritual dryness to help us empathize with others as well as appreciate what we have been blessed with.
thank you for another great post!

    blessings,
