Today's Devotional Scripture

Today's Verse

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
~Psalm 119:11 KJV
Thoughts on today's verse...

God commanded the Israelites on how they were to respond to His counsel and his word: "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart; you shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates" (Deuteronomy 6:6-9).

I had a wonderful book titled Doorposts by Timothy R. Botts. It was a book full of art and calligraphy that highlighted verses of scripture. I found great comfort in that book and often used it for meditation. I find that art (drawing, painting and even calligraphy) are entwined in the creative expression of our Lord and God. Now, I may not have the artist's ability nor the sure strokes of the calligrapher but I can still write God's word upon the doorposts of my heart, my home. I can even use Post-It Notes if I want! I've even been known to use permanent marker on my mirror to leave reminder notes (they easily are removed with window cleaner and it acts like a dry erase board).

Yes, I need those reminders of God's instruction - it helps me to keep on track.

My prayer...

Lord, recall to my mind those verses I have hidden in my heart, especially when I am going through times of trial. May I be even more diligent to continue to hide them, to memorize them and then Dear Father, use them to comfort me. ~Amen

Yours, because we're His,
Tamara

  1. You just know I'm going to have to try the magic marker thing on the mirrors now...Michael will be horrified thinking it won't come off and then I will be horrified if I have some weirdo wacko marker that does NOT come off. Oh well, as friend Mimi's son (who is now in Heaven) said to her "You're only on this planet once. Make it count."

It really does help to have Holy Scripture written in our hearts where it cannot and should not ever be erased!!

    blessings and hugs,

  3. Hi Tamara...thats a good idea about using markers on a mirror to leave notes...I should write clean me on my husband's mirror.
Take care and I will be back for more daily verses...

  4. Tamara...Thank you for blessing me with His word today.
I like the marker on the mirror idea, too.
Another idea for those that use white boards (perhaps you home school, etc.)....If you use a Vis a Vis marker on the white board, you may use a chalk board eraser over it and it won't erase. Why does that help. Perhaps you want to draw lines to show how to make letters....cursive, printing, etc...and you don't want to redraw those lines. Use a Vis a Vis marker....then use the Expo marker to write on the lines. Erase, and the Expo comes off...the lines stay. Now....to get the Vis a Vis lines off, simply take a wet paper towel or tissue. It comes off a white board with water. I used this a lot to write my assignments...I would write the days of the week and the rectangles in Vis a Vis...and then write the assignments in Expo...and would erase those assignments daily. Too much information....but maybe helpful to someone who needs the info.
Again, thank you for the scripture....
    Smiles from Jackie
