Today's Devotional Scripture

Today's Verse
The same day two of them [disciples of Jesus] were walking to the village Emmaus... They were deep in conversation, going over all these things that had happened. In the middle of their talk and questions, Jesus came up and walked along with them. But they were not able to recognize who he was.
~Luke 24:13-16 MSG
Thoughts on today's verse...
Can you imagine the astonishment these two must have had when they realized the third person who joined them on the walk was Jesus? Talk about not being able to see the forest for the trees! But then I wonder how often I've not been able to see Jesus because I've been so preoccupied with life and all that is going on around me.

God speaks to me through His word, when I take the time to listen. He speaks to me through circumstances and divine coincidence. He speaks to me through nature and the innocence of children. No writing on the wall, no audible voices, but through events and other persons. And I always know deep within my spirit when it is God speaking.
My prayer...
Lord, may I hear you today. May I take the time to listen with my spirit to Your Spirit. May I walk so close to You that I never have to stand back and say, "O... it's You!"

Yours, because we're His,

Tamara

  1. Nature does the same thing for me...being alone in the woods...centers me...makes me so aware of a higher power...makes me listen!

  2. As Wanda has said, God truly is everywhere and speaks to us even through nature itself. He is in some little tiny things where we don't expect Him, but we need to always be aware of His Presence wherever we are.

  3. You know what amazes me even more, Tamara?
When He speaks to me through the not-so-nice people I sometimes encounter, or the people you never expect to get His message from. But I've found if I'm open I see and hear His message through many forms.
    Sort of Angels in disguise.

  4. Oh Eileen, I totally agree with you! Isn't it amazing how and who He uses to reach us? I work in the State Prison system and sometimes the things an inmate will say are the very messages the Lord has for me that day! I stand in awe!!!
