Today's Verse

Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.   Colossians 1:10 NLT

Thoughts on today's verse...

Today's verse is a wonderful reminder of how I hope my Christian walk will be, but in all honestly, some days is it two steps forward and three steps back. More often than naught, it is like the Apostle Paul's writing in Romans 7:15, "For that which I am doing, I do not understand, for I am not practicing what I would like to do, but am doing the very thing I hate." Not that this verse gives me license to continue in sin, but I do find it encouraging that Paul also struggled with this. I feel that I am in good company.

I believe the last sentence of today's verse is what holds the key, 'All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.'  And just how do we get to know God better and better?  By studying His word, talking with Him (prayer), and fellowshiping with persons of like mind. 

So, in beginning this new week, my prayer for all of us is that we will 'grow to know God better and better.'

My prayer...

Father God, here I am before You.  I ask that You forgive my many, many sins and cleanse me from all unrighteousness.  I pray, Father that I will seek Your Word and continue to listen for Your voice daily.  I do want to know You better, I do want to walk this path in the light of Your Word.  In Jesus' name I pray ~Amen!
