Weekend Edition

A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones. ~Proverbs 17:22

Dave Barry has been at The Miami Herald since 1983. A Pulitzer Prize winner for commentary, he writes about issues ranging from the international economy to exploding toilets.

Dave Barry: A journey into my colon -- and yours

This article is for anyone who is over the age of 50 who has had or is contemplating a colonoscopy. It's located at: http://www.miamiherald.com/living/columnists/dave-barry/v-fullstory/story/427603.html

On the subject of Colonoscopies...

When I had mine a number of years ago, I think I was more frightened than when I had the heart attack! And when I become nervous and frightened, I become extremely verbose - chat, chat, chat.

I was given an IV to cause drowsiness and after some time I was wheeled into the proceedure room. The nurse was scurring around doing whatever it is they do to prepare for a proceedure of this sort, when I noticed she had a 'bluetooth' in her ear.

I commented, "Hmmm, I believe you must be Ulhura (the communications officer) from Star Trek, the other person over there must be Chekov (the navigator) because I'm sure the doctor doing the proceedure is Captain James T. Kirk, who is obviously going where no man has gone before!"

The one I referred to as Chekov adding something to the IV and I don't recall anything further...

Ah, the indignities associated with the coming of age!

Have a wonderful weekend all and remember, a colonscopy is no laughing matter. If you're putting it off, perhaps it's time to schedule the appointment.

Hugz to you all,

Tamara

  1. This is the second blog I've gone to that posted this!
And I have been putting it off for years!
Maybe Heaven is trying to tell me something.

I like your colonoscopy story as much as Dave Barry's!
    Thanks, Tamara!
    All the best,
    Eileen

  2. I have to go through this procedure every year and I don't mind the procedure as much as I do the preparation for it.... I have never gotten use to it either, oh well I do believe it is a necessity for everyone, now we just have to convince Eileen.
I have never been as creative as you or Dave Barry, I just snooze through everything.
    Have a wonderful weekend...:-) Hugs
