A Milestone

Today is a milestone of sorts.

Five years ago today was the day of the heart attack.

I have not smoked a cigarette in that time. Some days I find I still miss the addiction.

I have also not been faithful in exercise and just generally moving about. That is changing. Slowly, surely, one foot in front of the other. It is changing. I joined a Women's Fitness Center. It is called Ms. Fit. Ms. Fit. The name just somehow seemed appropriate. I have become disgusted with my lack of discipline as it relates to my health, so it is time for a change.

One foot in front of the other...

Eating thoughtfully.

Eating better.

Eating healthier.

Not dieting, but eating with purpose and treating food like... well, fuel. Like nourishment. Like the valuable resource it is.

That's the plan.

One foot in front of the other...

  1. I can relate to your post very well Tamara and you are very sensible in taking only one foot in front of the other and adding one day at a time. Sometimes I have to take it hour by hour with eating and lifestyle changes. Sometimes self-talk is mandatory for any success at all.
    I haven't had a cigarette since the 5th May 2011. Not even a sneaky puff. I was probably heading down the heart attack path as my blood pressure (untreated for years) was consistently sky high.
    Well done, my dear friend over the smoking and be kind to yourself over the diet and lifestyle changes.

  2. Tamara....I began my regimen the first week in January. Husband and I have been very structured with maintaining our workout schedule at the YMCA here where we live. At first, it was so hard to me. I didn't see results for almost a month (discouraging, but I learned that the scale isn't my friend.) :)
    To date, I have now lost 16 pounds. That doesn't sound like a lot, but I'm only 5'2" and any poundage at all shows up on me biiiig time.
    I'm so proud of your diligence. Kudos to you for not smoking again.
    I will be 64 in August, and I have never tried a cigarette. I could if I wanted to. I'm old enough now! :))
    But, I figured that I've gone this long without trying one, I probably don't need to.
    I encourage you to stay focused....don't give up...even if you slip with you what you eat that you think you might not should have. I do that. And I just "get back up, brush myself off, and go on"....back to the routine. I know it's best for my health.
    It's simply one day at a time. And YOU CAN DO THIS!!

  3. I admire your will-power giving up cigarettes (I'd have a HUGE problem if I'd ever started). I had done really well controlling my eating with the Fast-5 plan until I broke my hip. The eating schedule changed with hospital & rehab schedules and I've struggled to get back. That, combined with inability to exercise as I should, has resulted in weight gain and I'm quite discouraged. Your determination fuels my own. Let's DO this! I ♥ the Ms Fit name :)
